Hannah Latham from We Are Family magazine and I have been talking for months on how to create a section in her magazine that has a lot of information for intended parents looking at international surrogacy. I have written a couple of pieces for the magazine in the past but we’re looking at ramping it up so that the content is really spot on and topical.
A couple of weeks ago when Hannah and her colleague Callum were in town we met up to go through some more thoughts on this and then they joined me for the first evening seminar that I hosted for www.surrogacywithconfidence.com
As many of you know I have created this not-for-profit company in order to be able to help intended parents on a much larger scale than I have been doing thus far. What I will be doing through Surrogacy with Confidence is holding seminars every month or two that will go through all of the aspects that intended parents need to think through before they start on their international surrogacy journey.
I say international because there are many intended parents who want to go through with surrogacy in the UK. As I’ve mentioned before surrogacy in the UK is legal and can be done, the only things that intended parents are not allowed to do is a) advertise that they would like to use a surrogate and b) pay their surrogate more than “reasonable expenses”. Therefore I always point those looking at UK surrogacy to the UK not-for-profit agencies, COTS, Surrogacy UK and Brilliant Beginnings.
The first seminar was a great success. It ran for 2.5 hours and we discussed everything on the surrogacy spectrum from start to finish Hopefully those who came are now much more informed about international surrogacy and are now able to start making decisions that are right for them and their family.
The wonderful Callum then wrote a blog piece about his trip to London and here is the link to it http://wearefamilymagazine.co.uk/blogs-10/
